"Temple In Irvine? Wow!!" Thats how we reacted on hearing that a new temple was going to be inaugurated in Irvine on Oct 10, Sunday. Earlier, we had to drive for 24 miles to get to the nearest temple - That too, one which doesn't have a Gopuram nor the temple atmosphere from outside. If you are looking for a typical Indian temple, you got to drive all the way up to Malibu, which is a good 2 hours away from home!

All my friends were excited about the temple inauguration as I was, and we were looking forward to the event. The main 'Aarti' was scheduled for 1pm. We all left home by 12:30 and reached the place by 12:40 pm. The temple is located in a corporate block and hence, you wouldn't have the faintest idea about a temple being located there. Thankfully, there was a board which said 'Mandir' and we went inside. The interiors looked very beautiful and they had statues of most of the Hindu Gods and Goddesses. The decoration looked beautiful. Bhajans were on and there were more than 250 people there! I never imagined that there could be soo many Indians in and around Irvine. Lunch was served after some time.

The city Mayor was invited for the inauguration and was felicitated. We had a good time there and I am sure this temple is going to be a major hub for all cultural activities in Orange county.
