A comma cannot preceed an "and".

No No.. you got me wrong. A comma can come before an and in only a few cases..

The comma connects two sentences that contain independent clauses. An independent clause is a statement that contains both a subject and a verb.

In your sentence u had stated the following:
"If you spend a lot of time reading this blog, and are not satisfied at the end of it"

Here, the statement before the comma is "If you spend a lot of time reading this blog", which has a subject ('you') and a verb ('reading'). The second statement "Are not satisfied at the end of it" does not contain a subject. So, in this case a comma cannot come before an 'and'. However, on the other hand had ur second statement been "you are not satisified at the end of it", then ur statement would have both a verb and a noun and you can have the comma there. So, in summary,

If you spend a lot of time reading this blog, and are not satisfied at the end of it

is'nt correct, while,

If you spend a lot of time reading this blog, and you are not satisfied at the end of it

is correct.

If u had noticed, I didnt point out the line
"If you come across spelling mistakes, grammatical errors in the blog, please let the author know so that she can correct them, and sue her Convent teacher!",

is because ur usage there was correct. Both the lines before and after the comma have individual subjects and verbs.

Check it out. :)

And btw, the above rule holds not only for the "and" but for any of the co-ordinating conjunctions,

"and, nor, but, so, for, or, and yet."

Aside: Dont point out that the usage of the comma followed by the and before the word "yet" in the line above is wrong, 'cause it isnt. This is called the serial comma and it is perfectly legal to use it. This is rule 2, btw.

;)

I am sure ur Convent teacher didnt teach u this.. So, go and sue her :p
