Revenge... is chweeet :)

We have been thinking of getting a light-weight notebook for a long time. The best of deals happen the day after Thanksgiving. We decided to make use of this oppurtunity and went through all the 'Black friday' ads on the internet tenaciously. We had decided on two particular makes - Compaq presario with AMD Turion processor and Gateway notebook with Intel Centrino processor.

Both of these had very similar configurations, and it was real hard to decide among the two. After reading a lot of reviews, we decided to go for the AMD processor (You won't believe it, Pentium had a bug with floating point numbers, whereas AMD did'nt!!). Moreover, the fact that AMD has been producing good processors for some time now convinced us to go for the Compaq notebook.
Best Buy store (An electronics asnd Computer store) had a good deal for the Compaq laptop (I use the terms notebook and laptop interchangeably). They open at 5 AM the day after thanksgiving. I was willing to gate crash the store real early but Anand was'nt too keen on it. He did'nt want to wait in the long queue and 'run' to the notebook section once the gates were open.

So We decided to go at 6 o'clock and try our luck. The previous night, the alarm was set to ring at at 5:30 and we hit the sack by 11 PM. The alarm went off promptly at 5:30 today morning. We got up and were ready by 6. I made some hot chai. Geared in warm clothes and all other winter aceessories (Head-gear, gloves, etc, etc), we headed towards Best Buy. Luckily for us, Best Buy store is just two roads away from our home. We were at the store by 6:10. There was a crowd near the entrance and the parking lot was almost full. As we were looking out for parking spots around, I found one relatively close to the store and asked Anand to park our car in that spot, when a lady in a Murano, a HUUUGE SUV (Soccer mom, I bet!) drove from the other direction and parked her car in that the spot. I was really pissed off and gave her one frustrated look. She gave us a sly smile and parked her fat car! Hmmpfff. Fat A**!!


We found another parking spot three or four lanes away and we headed straight to the notebook aisle. The Compaq model we wanted was on display and there was a store guide standing right next to it. We showed him the one on display and asked him if there were anymore left. He went to the inventory to check if there were anymore pieces left. The same fat lady (Lets call her Murano, for short!) was standing near us. I did'nt even care to see what she was buying. The store guide returned in a few minutes with one box. He was coming towards us when, from nowhere another store guide (a lady) walked towadrs him and told him that Murano had asked for the same model and that she had come before us. Aaarggghhhh. So the guy gave the laptop to Murano. She grabbed the box and walked towards the billing counter. We asked him to check if he had another one of those and he said that the one he gave to Murano was the last piece they had. Murano who had been listening to all this gave us a scornful and arrogant look and was happy to have got hold of the last piece. I felt bad and was contemplating whether we should've come earlier (and that way, could've avoided Murano altogether). As we were taking a look at the other deals, we saw the same store guide walk towards us. He said that we could buy the laptop. On asking why Murano did'nt buy it, he said that she was looking for a Compaq 'CELERON' processor under $300! Three-hundred-dollar laptop??? Hah!! Adhukku thaana ivvalavu alattal??! Yaaru kitta modharai? (So much for a 300-dollar laptop?! Kiske saatha Panga le rahi ho?!!) We had the last laugh and walked away with our new purchase!!
